The Underdog 15 (rated conservatively at 15 watts) is our current production of the classic and one of the most sought after circuits--the 5E3 circuit. This amplifier is housed in a fingerjointed pine cabinet covered in tweed that has been lacquered. The amplifier uses two 6V6 power tubes and 2 12AX7 preamp tubes (a 12AY7 can be substitued into the first preamp position for cleaner headroom) and a 5Y3GT tube rectifier (Weber copper cap equivalents may be used). When the back panel is removed it is easy to see the attention to detail that goes into every one of these modern day classics.
Nick Greer Amplification uses all cloth covered wire throughout the circuitry (except the transformers). All of our amps are hand wired, point to point on fiberboard just like the original 5E3s. We use 1 watt carbon comp resistors throughout the circuitry with the exception of power resistors. This means that the amplifier is actually overbuilt and should last a considerably long time with proper use and maintenance. The chassis is chromed and letters are screen printed just like the original. The only difference one will find in our amps is the upgraded filament circuit, the addition of a standby switch (in place of the ground switch), improved grounding, and the choice of speakers and configuration.
